Cromwell online exhibition

Seen from abroad

Cromwell's reputation and importance extends beyond the local, regional and national. His role as Lord Protector meant that his name was known across Europe during his lifetime, and beyond to the West Indies and North America.
The revival of interest and enthusiasm for Cromwell in England in the middle of the last century was echoed elsewhere.
His image appears as a statue, in stained glass and also as a place name.
